The fourth Annual Tshivenda Music Awards [ TSHIMA ] will be held on September, 30 2017 at the University of Venda auditorium and will be broadcast live on SABC 2 at 18:00 CAT.
This year’s event has the addition of new categories as part of its growth strategy and see nominees battling it out in 14 categories, with an introduction of the “Best Tshivenda Indigenous Gospel Artist/Group of the Year” as well as the “NYDA Sponsored TSHIMA Young and Limitless Artist of the Year” which only focuses on artists who are younger than 21 years, in an attempt to encourage young artists to unearth their talent and give it exposure.
The race is on for the Best Reggae Album of the Year category with a strong showing of Tshivenda artists varying from young emerging artists to the older mature artists all competing for the title .
Previous winners of the Best Reggae album award include Colbert Mukwevho & Family (2012), Burning Doctor (2013) and Jah Soldiers (2015). Themed ‘Celebrating tomorrow’s legends today’, this year’s event promises to surpass previous editions of these awards that aim to recognize, promote and reward local artists who pride themselves by singing in Luvenda indigenous language while preserving the rich heritage and cultural diversity of Vhavenda people.
