Gcinekile Empress Pro Dlamini is a proficient singer, dancer, writer, actress and theatre practitioner. As a young girl she sang in the church choir and due to her early awareness of her artistic inclination, she decided to study music and drama at the FUBA School of Drama and Visual Arts in order to further develop and refine her natural talents. She has been involved in countless music projects since her graduation in 2003, some of which include working with Kwani Experience (2004) and the well-known Mbaqanga group ‘Izintombi Zesi Manje-Manje’ (2005).
Her music is inspired by her African heritage and her desire to use her music and various other creative abilities to serve the African continent. Her latest musical offering is entitled ‘Journey and My Vision’ and was released on the 7th of May 2014. The album title and the content of the album arise out of her experiences as an African woman and arts enthusiast, her burning desire to share her artistic abilities with the world and her refusal to give up on her dreams. The album consists of 8 songs which were produced by Big Robza that Empress Pro categorizes as Reggae contemporary and Afro soul. With each copy of the album that is sold, a percentage of those proceeds are donated to UBUNTU Organisation – an NGO she founded which donates food and clothing to members of the impoverished community of Kliptown, Soweto which is proof of her altruism.
She got a nod from the Reggae fraternity in 2014 when she was nominated at the Dancehall Reggae Music Awards in the Outstanding Women in Reggae category, as recognition for her work with the Foundation and Best Reggae Album for her debut album.
2015 saw her releasing a video for her single Take a Ride from her debut album. She is also scheduled to perform at the first annual Africa Unite Reggae Sunsplash in Cape Town. She is currently in the studio working on her second studio album which is due for release in 2017.
