Nkulee Dube and NC Dread an unlikely duo, is set to unleash a modern Reggae Dancehall tune, a first of its kind collaboration to come out of the Reggae Dancehall arena in South Africa. An unexpected collaboration between a Dancehall artiste and a Reggae Songstress who are different not only in delivery but also the market and audience that they cater for is polarized.
Nkulee, has been locked in the studios recording with Bashment Sound, producers of the song, and finished voicing her part just before jetting off to Nigeria to perform at the Africa Meets Reggae Festival in Lagos.
NC Dread, South Africa’s prolific Dancehall artist whose debut Album, Hustle, which was released in November last year, features some of Africa’s finest Dancehall acts. He has worked a lot with producers and artistes outside of South Africa, and this would be his first ever collaboration with a fellow Mzansi Reggae Artist. It seems to be a good move for both of them to reconnect with their South African audiences and the collaborative song will serve well this purpose, as the best of Dancehall meets the best of Reggae in a catchy tune that will appeal to their respective audiences and cut across genres.
It has been a while since we have heard any new music from Nkulee Dube, the African Lioness who has been carving her niche in the African Reggae circles from The Gambia to The ReUnion Islands and now in Nigeria. The singer/songwriter has been on tour in the last season and busy putting final touches to her upcoming Album which is expected to come out in the next season.
The new single in collaboration with NC Dread is set to drop in January 2017. The song is produced by Bashment Sound, NC Dread’s management team who were behind Hustle, The Album. Earlier this year they dropped a 12 track riddim album: Pharaoh Riddim featuring some of the best Artists from Africa as well as top artists from Jamaica and Canada. Bashment Sound is also working on a Baddest collaborative project to come out of Dancehall Africa. It will feature 8 of Africa’s finest acts with Kenya, Tanzania, Ghana, Uganda, Nigeria and South Africa represented.
Look To You will be ready and released on all digital platforms in 2017, it will sure add a different flavour to Mzansi’s Dancehall Reggae.
