Reggae Nominations at the Tshivenda Music Awards 2024
The Phalafala FM Tshivenda Music Awards (TSHIMA) is a strategic platform designed to recognise, reward and promote the artists who pride themselves in singing in Tshivenda, a Bantu language dominant in the Northern Province of Limpopo in South Africa and also spoken in Zimbabwe and Mozambique. The awards are also envisioned to preserve the rich heritage and cultural diversity of Vavhenda people.
The Nominees of the 12th instalment of the Awards, were announced on November 8, 2024 by Phalafala FM, the biggest radio station in the region. The Nominees are a mixed bag of Veterans and Young and current artists. Dr. Colbert Mukwevho, who won the inaugural TSHIMA for Best Reggae Album in 2012 gets a nod for his 2022 single Di A Khona. Multiple award winner Ras Canly who hit it big in 2017 by scooping the overall Song of the year, for his hit song Vhutshilo ri tou fhana, the first Reggae Song to clinch that title and in the same year won Best Reggae Album. In 2020 he won Best Tshivenda Artist and Best Male Artist awards. He has been a consistent contender.
Rasta Bathu makes an impressive return to the Awards with three Nominations: Best Reggae Song; Best Male Artist and Artist of the Year. In 2020 he won the highly contested Best New Comer of the Year Award.
Another Veteran Humbulani Ramagwedzha, who has been making music for quite some time and is well known in the circles makes the list representing for the foundation artists, Nethwadzi, – popular for his song dedicated to Makhadzi, Limpopo’s finest and most famous songstress dubbed African Queen – rounds up the list of Reggae Nominations. C2b da Poet, who recites his poems on Dub got a nomination in the Best Poetry category.
The Awards ceremony will take place on December 07, 2024 at Kalahari Waterfront;.
