SAMA29 to kick off in the first quarter of 2023

SAMA29

South African Music Awards 2023 | SAMA29

The Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA), as the custodian and organiser of the South
African Music Awards (SAMA), has announced that the 29th edition of the premier music
event will open for entries in the first quarter of 2023.

The ripple effect of the date for entries is that the awards show will be staged only in the
second half of the year.

The SAMA has been on an upward trajectory in the last three years, with last year’s
instalment attracting over 1300 submissions across all categories, setting a new record in the
process. This has stood as testament to the confidence the music industry has in the systems
and processes of the SAMA29

Additionally, after months of industry wide consultations and reflections, the awards are
undergoing some fundamental transformations that will be made public in due course.

RiSA CEO Nhlanhla Sibisi commented: “It give me pleasure to inform the industry, fans and
supporters of the local music industry that the SAMA continue to prove to be an enduring
feature in the South African music landscape and this year will not be different. We are
confident that as we push towards the milestone 30 th year of the awards we will have an event
that is agile, engaging and puts the artist first” .

The SAMA29 are organised by the Recording Industry of South Africa and SABC1 is the
official broadcast partner.
