Fundraiser Concert for Sensi Ranking
On April 20, 2025 a fundraising concert for Sensi Ranking is set to take place at Nokaneng Backpackers in Thaba Busio, the birth place of the Basotho Nation, in Maseru.
Sensi Ranking had the misfortune of being shot at and hospitalised for a week. It all happened on October 31, 2024, Four to five armed men showed up at his home and one of them fired a shot which hit Sensi in the leg. They then threw him into a 4×4 Toyota Hilux with the company’s logo – Sigma Construction company – prominently displayed on the side. All this happened at his own home in front of his wife and little son. He had to be hospitalised again as his health took a turn for the worst and had to be under Long Term Oxygen Therapy. That also affected his mental health. He could not walk nor work to provide for his family.
Though Sensi is well on his way to Recovery, they (him and his wife) are now left with the burden of paying hospital bills and seeking legal consultation. He reached out on social media for help and or advise.
The reggae community, and the broader music community of Maseru then come together in a spirit of love, positivity, and support in order to stage this Fundraiser concert where everyone is invited to join in. This came as a surprise for Sensi, as he never expected such a gesture.
A donation of a minimum of M20 will be asked at the door with all proceeds going directly to the beneficiary.
The line-up includes: BabaTunde, Veliqaci, Selector T Mashimi, Ragga Beast, BabaNdlovu, Don Guru, Simakade and more. The activities will include Photoshoots, Art Talk and Exhibition, Health Talk, Drum Circle and Live Performances. Guests are invited to arrive early and soak up the vibes, with music commencing from 2pm till late.
Sensi Rankin – real name Motebang Mongake – is a Reggae Dancehall artist from Lesotho. He was born in New Europa, a neighbourhood in Maseru. His alias is derived from the highest of grades, Sensimilla; because people used to comment on how much he loved Marijuana. The Ranking part, explains Sensi, “is about the pattern of Reggae flow on the riddim. We have the Rankings, The Bantons and so on, so I am The Ranking, Inspired by Emperor Shabba Ranking.’
