MANNEX MOTSI

Mannex Motsi is an African Reggae Musician from Zimbabwe born on the 17th of April 1980 full name Emmanuel Chamunorwa Motsi. The reggae artist created a group called The Bootkin Klan, a unique group of 5 boys to form a unit of voices and charisma in 2003. This group stole the hearts of people and produced hits like Tsamba (Love Letter), Chirwere (H.I.V Aids) & Anoti Nyo Ndiani? (Who Dares?). Tsamba the first hit topped the national charts for 26 weeks and took 3rd position on the 2003 annual Zimbabwe Hitsville Top 100 Charts.

Due to hyperinflation in Zimbabwe in that period unfortunately the group couldn’t continue doing music and performances. This was not a hindrance for Mannex as it became a footstool for him and produced his first solo album produced by MacDee Chidavaenzi in 2005 called Munhu Mutema (African) which represented preservation of the Zimbabwean and African Culture.

Mannex continued to perform with Backtracks for his and Bootkin Klan fans until he got his first chance to perform using a live band and gain experience through the Mbare 1980s Legends Pied Piper’s led by the late Choasi Mdoka for a year. With Pied Pipers that’s where he showed his love for music adapting to performing jazz contemporary cover songs from as early as Elvis Presley to the latest RnB hits that were playing on radio and to his own Bootkin Klan and New album hits. Under Pied Piper’s he met the 2000 Nama award winning Afro Jazz Maestro the late Dumi Ngulube who also was a resident of Warren Park 2006 and was performing all around Zimbabwe in hotels and corporate functions & parties.

Mannex gained the love of sound as Dumi would teach him how to engineer sound each show they had, same time being the curtain raiser for the Afro Jazzman. Mannex who was now growing musically as a live band performer with more confidence then was called up by the then manager Pascall Mandeya and famed economist to the re-emerging Transit Crew who were the first ever Zimbabwean Reggae Group formed in 1988 to ever go international performing 100%reggae to the world in places like Japan and England and now had been performing Saturdays at the Book Cafe which had an international clientele.

In Transit Crew, Mannex felt at home from 2008 to 2015 he would mold and establish himself as a Reggae Artist earning the nickname The Golden Voice given to him by fans producing the Album Unity which had hits like Rozi and Get on board. Beginning his international journey, he settled in Ghana Accra for a year then came back to Zimbabwe after recording a single there called Super Transformation featuring Opoku Mensah and Dela Botri the Ghana Jazz music Award winner.

2016 Mannex created his own Brand Mannex Motsi Music and mentored youngsters performing, composing and band management at the same time learning how to play instruments. Mannex Motsi is now an Acoustic guitar player and can play percussion, congas and drums in addition to being a lead sing, recording and performing artist. He works with the community as Chairman of Arts and cultural development, Marketing and Organising Officer for sports management in Warren Park.

2020 has been a difficult year for the whole world due to the Covid 19 outbreak, so Mannex Motsi composed a song featuring two artists Lutah King and producer Lazzie T called Wah dis Corona with visuals on YouTube also on rotation on ZBC TV and was on the Classic 263 Charts for 9 weeks. This song is to raise awareness on the pandemic and educate people on social distancing among other preventative measures. During the year he performed at an Online African Binge Festival among other artists From Kenya, South Africa, Nigeria, Uganda among other African Countries and also headlined the Bob Marley Commemorations hosted by Dollarbill Ent.

2017 to 2021 so far has seen Mannex leading his band as backing band for greats like Turbulence the Future, Mega Banton, Epixode of Ghana & Antony B and performing live every Saturday at an exclusive venue in the heart of the Capital City of Zimbabwe. As a social action oriented activist he has begun leading the Nation in revamping community centres in a bid to combat drug abuse amongst the youth by giving them an option on other hobbies to keep them busy starting with the Warren park, Harare Basketball, Volleyball and Tennis court. He currently released a Song Called Jah Jah Bless We Produced by Guspy Warrior which is also on Color Vibes.
