Reggae Solidarity Benefit Show

The South Africa National Department of Arts and Culture working closely with PAN Africa Artists reacting / pro-actively responding to the current Cyclone IDAI to help rebuild the lives of victims and survivors. Cyclone IDAI made landfall near the port city of Beira/River Chiveve in Sofala province on Thursday 14th March 2019 with winds of up to 177 km/h (106 mph), at least 1.7 million people were in the direct path of the cyclone in Mozambique and 920,000 have been affected in Malawi, the UN said. It is estimated that there are 900 000 orphaned / separated from parents. This has triggered a “massive disaster” in Africa affecting hundreds of thousands if not millions of people. Recorded as he worst weather-related disasters ever to hit the southern hemisphere Cyclone IDAI brought floods of up to six metres deep had caused “incredible devastation” severely affecting Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi. The full impact not yet fully known. Since the 14th March Africa, Mozambique in particular have been hit by Cyclone Kennedy and storms in south Africa causing flooding and further loss of life.

Pan Afrikan Reggae Community rise up to the clarion call pledging to stand in solidarity with grieving brothers and sisters in Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Tanzania, Madagascar, Comoro and South Africa. For Africa month, Reggae Community have planned a family day themed Benefit Show on Sunday, 19th May 2019 at Lebo’s Backpackers in Soweto. We are joining the department in organising a series of programmes for the benefit of the victims and survivors. To gain entry to the show Donations of Blankets, Clothes and non-perishable goods is the currency. The items in high demand in the affected areas are Water, Water purifiers, Rice, Canned Food, Mealie Meal, High Protein powders, Solar lights, Medical supplies, tents, sleeping bags, inflatable/foam rubber mattresses, towels, pots, crockery, sanitary pads, toiletries, detergents, toys and crayons, to name a few.

The Reggae Solidarity show will start at 10:00AM – 8:00PM. We have a great line up of artists and selectors (deejays) across genres who will be edu-taining (entertaining) the masses with positive vibrations – word, power and sound.
