Rasta at Work

Movement of Jah People

Rasta at Work [RAW] is more of a movement than just a band. The aim is to bring Reggae music to the people through live performances. Rasta at Work seeks to have an element of entertainment and education through their music and performances. The band was formed in 2008 and had their first performance outside KZN at SABC Reggae Spring Fest in 2010. There are seven founder members of the band who managed to stay together until present and they are:

Bass guitar – King David
Rythm guiter  – Ras Zipho
Lead Singer  – Love I
Drums  – Mzwandile Mavundla
Keyboards – Siyethemba Mavundla and Simanga Kweyana
Backing Vocals – Bonga Gumede and Mkhuseli
Lead guiter – Aristate Manhque

Having carved a niche for themselves as a Live Reggae Band in and around Durban and various parts of KwaZulu-Natal, the band is confident that their music and style will be warmly received by reggae fans across the globe.  Rasta at Work is unique in that it offers a platform to various artists, especially young and upcoming, giving them the opportunity to work with a live band from the conception of the song right up to recording and distribution. Their latest project, the experimental Thando Riddim, involved six featured artists both established and upcoming. It was a project that gave Durban its very first home grown Riddim featuring exclusively South African artists.

Through the inspiration of Reggae Musicians like Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Roots Radics, Burning Spear, Twinkle Brothers, Third World, Misty in Roots, Rastas at Work managed to create their own sound of reggae music that reflects their immediate surroundings yet universal in its message.

The band is more of a performing band than a recording band and therefore has not released an album yet. They perform at the annual Bob Marley Birthday Celebrations at Ushaka Marine and Care Reggae Festival at Ecovilla in Lalibella.
