Hussla D
Hussla is a DJ producer and vocalist hailing from the UK. He established his name as a DJ/Selector from the tender age of 12 when he founded Jah Troopers Sound
(1998) with his peers of a similar age. As youths in the business during the early years, they were shunned and underestimated by the elder sound systems and promoters being used to play the early sets when the dance was empty and received very little pay or even no pay at some shows.
These experiences built resilience and drive to prove the ability to stand upalongside the top of the top sounds and hold his own. Being in a considerably lower
earning bracket than his competitors taught him to be creative and selective in what music to buy and how to play it, competing against expensive dubplates with regular 45s.
Hussla carried Jah Troopers to the big league with a portfolio which includes supporting an extensive list of international Reggae, Hip Hop and RnB acts, DJs and Sound Systems, along with broadcasts on national radio stations such as BBC 1xtraand international performances in Europe and Africa.
The addition of hosting their events set the standard for Jah Troopers influencing thequality and level of bookings they received, eradicating the need for compromising
their performance conditions. This influential position created a platform for otheraspiring artists and musicians. Facilitating this process played a significant role in
Hussla developing his artistry, music production and reputable status in artistdevelopment across music genres such as Garage, DrumNbass, Grime and Hip
Hop. Hussla’s first official production was ‘The A-Block Mixtape’. The mixtape featured various local artists from his area. The second project was the ‘Troopers Show –
Track Sampler’ which was released in conjunction with the UK rave brand Sidewinder Raw.
In 2011 he released his mixtape “Fistful of Dandymite” which featured mainly his vocals with guest artists and demonstrated his Reggae influence across a range of
genres such as Hip Hop, RnB, Grime and EDM. As a follow-up, Hussla released his first official digital release ‘For My Brother’ a tribute to his brother ‘DJ Spess’ that passed away in 2003. He was also part of Jah Troopers as the specialist UK Garage & DrumNBass DJ. This song was produced by ‘Rohan Newman’ (friend and lead guitarist in Hussla’s band) and featured guest vocals from female singer friend ‘Shniece Mcmenamin’.
His next major project was in 2015 when he took it back to roots reggae with his ‘Ignite EP’ which he toured UK with his band headlining shows at popular live music
venues such as Brixton Hootananny. Skanking In The Dancehall’ was the project that elevated Hussla’s Producer and Artist profile to the next level. Released in 2018 the song collaborated with legendary producer King Jammy and was well received internationally. Receiving featured in magazines such as Complex (UK/US), Reggaeville (Germany), Reggae Vibes printed magazine with track sampler CD compilation (France) and ReggaeRadioIT (Italy). The song circulated on various radio stations around the world, charted in the Top 25 Dancehall Charts (Australia) and playlisted on Apple Music ‘Reggae A-List’ and Spotify’s ‘Dancehall Kings’
The collaboration sparked a great music relationship between Hussla and King Jammy who welcomed him into the Jammys family. Since this, Hussla has released a string of singles as a producer and vocalist working with the likes of JR Kenna (Holland), Maikal X (Netherlands) Zebbylion (UK), Mr Patez (Netherlands), DJ Jeren (Costa Rica) and more and continues to build his discography.
